Vice heads to a North Korean fun fair

If there's two things I love more than most, it's funfairs and seeing what's inside the mind-boggling prison state that is North Korea.  Happily, Vice have managed to combine the two.  Natch!

The Vice Guide to the Congo > PART 1

If there's one thing we love here at Get Low HQ, it's Vice documentaries.  They rock.  I've shown nearly everyone the Vice Guide to Liberia, and the fact they managed to secretly capture enough footage to create a whole documentary INSIDE North Korea is plainly hardcore.

Vice head to the Democratic Republic of Congo to see what the deal is with all the conflict minerals.  The country is rife with strife but also hold 80% of the world's supply of a mineral that is required in nearly every mobile phone and computer.

It's this demand for technology in the modern world which is fuelling the country's violence.

GRIME Tattoo Age PART 3

This is the final part of the Vice Tattoo Age series, featuring GRIME.  It takes a far more personal look at Grime's psyche, and his need to constantly push himself and create in order to be satisfied.

 Part 2 of the Tattoo Age feature on the most respected tattoo artists in the field, GRIME.  This episode gives a little back story into how a young skateboarder in Grand Junction, Colorado who thought his future was in mathematics became one of the world's most accomplished tattoo artists, as well as a look at his awesome board collection.

LONDON RIOTS

Whilst the Arab people overthrow tyrants, the disenfranchised, angry and opportunistic poor youth of Britian loot trainers from JD Sports and want to watch the world burn.  Go figure.

Tonight, London seems to has calmed down due to a massive influx of police officers.  So step up Manchester and Birmingham which looks set on showing the London boys how it's done.

 There's already reports of a JCB being joyrided down streets looking to crush cars, mugging, police letting their dogs off the leash and petrol bombs being thrown.  Just now hearing reports of large gangs of vigilantes looking to protect their ends tonight, like the Turks did last night.

Exciting stuff, eh?

To be truly honest, and I'm not saying this just 'cause we help them out now and again, but the Vice Riots live blog feed has been the best internet source of keeping up to date with all the juicy stuff.

Looks like it's gonna be a wild night!  It's a shame Notting Hill Carnival is likely to be shut down this year though... Bummer.

GRIME - THE TATTOO ARTIST

GRIME is the next featured artist of VBS's Tattoo Age series, and the first full episode just launched.
Although sporting no tattoos myself, I'm fascinated by them.  And tattoo artists themselves are pretty interesting individuals.  I would know, I've got a mate who's one.  He's called Rytch Soddy, runs his own studio and inked to the nines, with shaved hair and mini-pink dreads.  He's also highly well-spoken and entertains an interest in physics.

For weeks, my flatmates have been trying to bundle me in a car and force me to get a '66' tattoo.  It's the house number we live in and they've all got one.  I've managed to dodge every ambush so far...

Vice Party - Diesel Adidas collaboration

On February 17th, for London Fashion Week our pals at VICE are having their own shindig celebrating a collaboration between Adidas & Diesel.  

A1 Bassline, Teeth!!!, and DELS are performing.  

A1 Bassline's made one of our favourite tunes at the moment, the epic 'Stabs'.

Vice: The Producers ft. Toddla T

Vice is releasing another documentary series, this time focusing on a pick of exciting producers.

Luckily, the first episode is about Toddla T.  Boh!

He chats about making tunes and we see him producing a tune in the studio for his forthcoming album on Ninja Tune.

Worth a watch.

The Creators Project: United Visual Artists

United Visual Artists make dope light shows.  They've done stuff for Massive Attack and Chemical Brothers.  Saw the Daft Punk light show thing?  They do shit like that.

The stuff they make is actually sick, and I have a photo of myself with the 'Volume DV' one when it was in London, so bite me.

Wired did a cool little article about the collaboration too.

They got a load of other features about other "Creators", like Richie Hawtin and Karl Sadler.  Check it out.

This is Major Lazor's single "Zumbie".  Quite a jokes video.  It's crazy how Andy Milonakis has a congruent Jamacian accent which doesn't blowout the whole song into a disposable parody.

Vice Style and Nike's Skunk Dunk

Vice have also started up a cool fashion website called Vice Style.

The just reported on some heavy sneakers Nike made, the Dunk Hi SB "Skunk" shoe.

They got a stash spot and everything!

They got released last week for 4/20. (20th April to you and me, 420 being a slang word for Cannabis in the US.  It's like national weed smoking day out there.  I went to Hippy Hill at the bottom of Haight Street on that day last year.  It was nuts)

So yeah, for more shit like that go check out Vice Style.  They've done cool articles like Fashion under the Fascist regime of Italy, and weird shit like Cancer fashion (I shit you not).



OH!  If ANYONE can link me to the same sunglasses Kim Jong-Il wears, hit me up.  The 'Liberian Warlords and North Korean Dictator' is the next big thing in fashion, trust me.

M.I.A's got a dope video, new skate series from Vice, Zinc's done a April Crack House Mix, and go cop a new track from Benga

For M.I.A's new single "Born Free" she's got Romain Gavras to to direct a 9 minute short.  It's dope, well worth watching!

The cultured folk at Vice have also launched their next installment of Skate Europe, this time focusing on Denmark.  It takes a look at the skate scene from the 1970s right up to the present.  This is part one, and you can watch all the rest over at Vice's own video website, VBS.tv.





Zinc has also released another Crack House mix.  Not to be missed, especially as it starts off with a cheeky "Tron" edit.  Eurgh!

VBS - Skate Europe - Italy

Here's part 1 of VBS's 'Skate Europe' series.  It's a pretty cool insight into Skateboarding in Italy, especially the old 80s videos.  Worth checking out.

Another note, VBS were in Norwich at a clubnight I was dj'ing at on my birthday (large up Pow!).  They spring on me with a camera asking for my political views and who I was gonna vote for.  I professed the Liberal Democrats, and they then asked what political issues concerned me.
My mind went blank and instead of talking in depth of my support of Human Rights, Net Neutrality, and protection of public services, all I could come up with was a more liberal drug policy and how terrible it'd be if the Tories got in.

I reckon it came across more like this though.

Vice goes behind the scenes for the new SMD video

After making videos for Klaxons and Good Shoes and a billion other amazing projects, Saam Faramand is pretty much Vice's favourite director. Simian Mobile Disco first worked with him in their "Hustler" video when he seemed to get every girl inside Catch to come round and make out with each other.



Now, for SMD's new collaboration with Beth Ditto, Saam's brought together the woman from all those Nescafe adverts, sapphism, and electronic drug abuse. He also let Vice film him make it for their Heroes project with Vodafone - http://bit.ly/8aeJPG
