Example - Kickstarts (Bar 9 Remix)

Get Low have long supported the career of Example, who has earned further respect by dusting himself off from the rubble that was The Beats (Mike Skinner's foolhardy label that was subsequently dropped from Warner after spanking all its cash and making no record sales). He's returned in the last year armed with an arsenal of tunes created by some of the biggest dance music producers in the country, including Herve, MJ Cole and Chase & Status. It's undoubtedly a far more commercial stance then his previous incarnation but with Skepta, Professor Green and other former 'urban' artists also embracing this poppier aesthetic it's clearly the name of the game in 2010.

Bar 9, who reside firmly in the wobble led zone of Dubstep, remixed Example earlier this year and a superb video has surfaced, made by a D.I.Y production team based in L.A.  Here's what Example said about the video:

“Having studied film at university and also had involvement in all my own videos (including the video for Me & Mandy which took 4 days to shoot, £500, about 50 cast & crew and a weeks editing) I know just how much time and effort has gone into the video below

A short while back I noticed that some talented dudes based in LA were knocking out some pretty impressive martial arts / parkour videos, they were fast-paced, homemade, low-budget but utterly brilliant. They were also nearly always edited to a dubstep soundtrack

I got in touch with them via YouTube and after a few email exchanges I sent them my Bar9 remix and they wrote me a delicious video treatment.

A month later they del
ivered this, a truly astonishing piece of gritty cinema made for next to no money

The xx and Saam Farahmand

Like our feature on Hot Chip and Peter Serafanowicz a few weeks ago, this new collaboration between The xx and Saam Farahmand seems like a match made in heaven. The video for new single 'Islands' seems repetitive at first, until you realise that the dancers are actually changing small features of their moves with each new clip. What does it mean? No idea, but it looks rather nice.

London: Shot by Kern

Richard Kern, has somehow managed to blag taking pictures of hot women naked as his job.  Lad!

This is a cool documentary which follows Kern on his European Tour, this time stopping in London.  It shows the whole 'artistic' process, from casting the models, the photoshoot, and chatting to the models and seeing their perspective.  Oh, it also has lots of boobs and posing and close-ups.  But it's totally alright as it's intellectual and post-modern and arty.  When you watch it, you're being 'cultural'. Sweet!

I can't get the embed codes to work for shit, so here's just a link to the VBS.net page.  Boh.

I implore you to check out Melé, Submerse has done a new track, and Get Low this week!

Melé is just goddamn rude right now.

This 18 year old is making bangers that are getting played out left, right and centre, and has been signed to Sinden's label.

This is his badboy remix of Skepta's "Rescue Me".

"Bombay" is Melé's EP.  Listen to the tracks.  This guy is sick!  "And of the Son" is my favourite.

Melé - Bombay EP by Mixpak

My favourite Future Garage artist Submerse (who I heavily pushed when we last talked about Future Garage) has literally just uploaded this track to the public.  Check it out.

Vice and Intel launch The Creators Project featuring Diplo

Wired did a cool little article about the collaboration too.

They got a load of other features about other "Creators", like Richie Hawtin and Karl Sadler.  Check it out.

This is Major Lazor's single "Zumbie".  Quite a jokes video.  It's crazy how Andy Milonakis has a congruent Jamacian accent which doesn't blowout the whole song into a disposable parody.

Get Low hits LA

After a recent trip to LA with the wife, finally got round to putting up some photos of Get Low doing the rounds:

Old man Rufus is a legend round Venice Beach and after showing us how he liked to brock out in the sun, he's now an honourary member of the GLC. God speed Rufus, god speed

Not so psychic eyyy? Didn't see that coming...

Towards the end of the trip we managed to link up with good friend to the Get Low Cartel : Fazhands, who was djing on Hollywood Blvd. Needless to say he killed it as always and has since been booked for a long line of other gigs out in LA this summer. Make sure to check him out : www.myspace.com/fazhands

Vice elections: Young Conservatives (and Pow! messyness)

They should have known better than to be the subjects of a Vice video about politics, they got well and truly PARRED.

I was dj'ing at Pow that night. Watch out for my cameo outside the club! I'm the one that chats supporting a scientific based drugs policy (which I sincerely believe the UK should have). I came out unscathed, thank god. Hope the Kuleshov effect doesn't bring me down too much though.

Oh, I voted Liberal Democrat.

Massive tune from Redlight & Toddla T, Breakage's Radio 1 Essential Mix, and a great Joe Muggs article

I heard this track during Josh (Hush House)'s set at Pow last week.  Proper run-up-to-the-dj-and-find-out-the-track-name-and-artist business.  It's fucking sick.

And!

To round off for those literary folk amongst you, another excellent Joe Muggs article this time about the futile attempts to split and divide the many sounds of Dubstep:
