GET LOW at OUTLOOK FESTIVAL

"OH MY GOSH"

It's hard to describe Outlook Festival without resorting to hyperbole, and probably even harder to take reviews such as mine seriously due to presumptions of exaggeration.

But Outlook Festival 2010 was literally one of the best experiences of many people's lives, including my own.

A big statement, but justified.

Every person there was so friendly, conversations and friendships were being formed left, right and centre. Beer and food was cheap and good, the fort itself was incredible with top notch soundsystems all round (although special mention goes out to Mungo's Hi-Fi and Noahs Ballroom!). The beach and sea was beautiful, DJ's were doing the sets of their lives, the Boat parties were one of a kind, and to get cheeky for a second, the sheer amount of peng women was remarkable!

My personal highlights:

- Everyone hanging out on the beach at night and getting to know each other for those that arrived a day or two early.

- The Bigger Than Barry boat party. Unreal. Oneman, I salute you.

- Talking and getting to know
Pasteman and girlfriend Dorrie generally, and him giving me a CD of unreleased Electro tunes after said Boat Party to play during my set the next day, what a legend.

(BTW // check out this fat remix by Pasteman!  Free download business!)

Stanton Warriors - Still Here (Pasteman Remix) by Pasteman

- Loefah and DMZ's set. One for the history books.

- During DMZ's set, Klose One nearly killing himself by boshing through the barrier blocking off the stairs whilst raving, summersaulting and landing on his back, narrowly escaping a fatal fall. Then getting back up and continuing to skank!

- Jamming under the main stage while Roots Manuva performs "Witness (1 hope)" overhead.

- Dancing in the sandpit with a sea of other people to amazing music. Ibiza terrace can walk away with a tail between it's legs.

- The view from our camping spot.

- Congo Natty sticking about and giving us a thumbs up during our set in the Ballroom...

- Then P Money turning up randomly and MC'ing over our set. Legend!

- Simply making so many new friends from passing conversations and friendly acknowledgements. Amazing vibes.

To get a real feel for how awesome our arena "Noah's Ballroom" was, here's a snippet from a review of the festival altogether:

"Following an assured flow of people drew us to a low archway crowded with bodies. Crouching slightly, I squeezed through the amassed and found myself emerging into an awesome circular arena. Flinching, I brushed what I could only assume was rain out of my eye as I looked to the floor to shield myself instinctively. Running my hand through my hair revealed that there was actually no rain, but in fact there was ancient debris falling from above, as the bass from the emerging arena was literally shaking the fort to pieces! A few steps through the swarm and I was securely planted in the centre of ‘Noah’s Ballroom’, a circular, open-air arena packed with people from wall to wall, raving beneath the starry Croatian night.

This was spectacularly surreal, and genuinely thrilling to experience. Generally speaking, some nights out are great fun, others are poignant, others particularly funny, but rarely are they able to humble you like the behemoth that is Outlook Festival! Outlook delivers!"

We were on 4am to 6am, after OnemanRattus Rattus & Klose OneOrdio Kid, and NightOwl

Check out some snaps from our set:

GUESS WHAT.

The early bird tickets for next year are on sale next week!  From 1st October, you can buy 'em for £80.

"Dont Carry On Like A Rude Boy When Daddy's Got A Yacht"

High Rankin returns after his destruction of Methadrone skegheads with another character assassination, this time about Posho's latching onto the Dubstep bandwagon.

In a similar vein, check this out if you've been hiding under a rock for the past few weeks:

It's all love here at Get Low, but one has to admit, this is a truly jokes blog!

Johnny Knoxville and Palladium Boots go deep in Detroit

Palladium Boots having been killing it with some dope documentaries.  Remember that killer London Pirate Radio one we blogged about a while back?  Yeah, Palladium did that.

Now, they've done one about Detroit, considered the "Death of the American Dream".  Basically everyone lost their jobs and most people think the city is crumbling.  Which is half true.

Knoxville discovers a DIY paradise full of artists and entrepreneurs who view the abandoned “D” as a raw space where young people can create community and start rebuilding their city from the inside out. A burgeoning class of young people are inspiring each other by using the cities ‘disadvantages’ as opportunities.

Mensah Baby D RMX

It's finally out, Mensah's remix of Baby D's "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" is available for download on Get Darker's "This Is Dubstep Vol. 3"and is steadily climbing the dance charts.

Get the full track on itunes here. The whole album is pretty fucking naughty, make sure you have a listen and stock up.

My top 5:

1) Cracks - Flux Pavilion RMX - been a standard in my sets for a while now, can't get enough of it. Flux has got that epic dub production down to a T, keep it coming ruuboy.

2 ) Mensah RMX - obviously

3) Little Bits - Benga - naughty tune - nuff said

4) Show Me - Skream RMX - risky to try to remix such a sexy song but it works, and it works WELL

5) Kickstarts - Bar 9 RMX - either if you're playing it out or got a couple of beers in your belly, it's gonna go off.

Keep an eye out for Mensah, gully sets and big production, dangerous combo. Myspace here

Towelie's Video Spesh

Easy all, just got back from Croatia to find some new videos out and about, thought I'd share the findings.

Newham Generals - Like It Or Not
New single from Newham Generals taken from their upcoming "Bag of Grease" EP released 4th October. Another naughty tune with a dirty bassline from the Generals, video directed by Morgan Keyz the creative director of music videos for SB.TV and also directs videos for Trapstar.

Magnetic Man ft. Katy B - Perfect Stranger
Probably one of the naughtiest collaborations of our generation, Magnetic Man are looking pretty unstoppable at the moment.  After "I Need Air" reaching in at no.10 in the UK charts, the Skream-Benga-Artwork collab has brought out another classic that transcends usual boundaries making it accessible to all audiences.  Definitely a fan favourite at Outlook last week with audiences kicking off as soon as they heard those opening synths.
Directed by WIZ (also worked with Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Dizzee + Kasabian to name a few) in Romania, the video's a bit next showing everyone getting a soaking from the authorities. It's got elements similar to M.I.A's "Born Free" video which caused great controversy at the time for reasons that words can't really do justice.
As for Katy B, not much needs to be said.  With tune after tune the South London Brit School graduate is destined for great things, could almost say she was on a mission... sorry, had to be done. "Tell Me" was one of my first vinyls and still destroys dancefloors wherever played; can listen to it here.

M.I.A - Born Free

Bit off topic but gotta see this kids reaction to the video, about half-way through kicks off about it
"WTF MIA? I'm disappointed in you, I liked that Paper Planes song" - too jokes.

Anyway, Magnetic Man album is released 11 October, you can pre-order it on Amazon here or HMV here.

Keep your eyes peeled to catch the liveshow on the upcoming tour. For those back in Norwich, the birthplace of Get Low, get down to the Waterfront on 26th October.  Definitely not to be missed.

Shadrack And The Mandem - Guns & Pork

Found this jokes video sponsored by Boxfresh and made by Click Replay.
Check them out to see other Shadrack & Mandem shorts.

On the jokes flex, here's a Future Short, directed by Adam Smith and starring Charlie Creed-Miles.

and FINALLY, I've seen this is doing the rounds and people seem to have not seen it yet.  Absolute HUUUGE tune, surprisingly from Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. TURN YOUR BASS UP.

Thats all for now, happy viewing. x

Fis-T // Night Hunter - WHAT A TUNE!

OH MY GOSH.

Already out on vinyl, and out digitally on the 20th September, on Oneman's label 502 Recordings.

Sometimes a tune comes around and changes the game.  For the continuum heads, this is a crucial moment where Funky meets wobble.  But wobble done right.  It's smashing dancefloors, and is a straight wheel everytime.

Get To Know.

ONEWAY @ KNOWHERE - 6.10.2010 // SKREAM, CHEF, HIJAK, LEVELZ, SGT. POKES and GET LOW // Massive line-up, R U Dumb?!

Wow wow we waw!

Organised by Skandal (who did an exclusive mix for us a little while back), this is the biggest Dubstep event coming to Norwich for a long while.

Having just released his album "Outside the Box", and hitting number 10 on the UK singles chart with "I Need Air" with Magnetic Man, this is probably one of the last times you'll be able to see Skream in such a small venue, not just in East Anglia, but in the country.  Ever.

Not only that, there's massive support from brother-in-arms Hijak, Rinse FM stalwart Chef (who smashed up Outlook Festival main stage with a ridiculous jungle set!), and ripple-making newcomer Levelz.

Oh yeah, your friendly neighbourhood Get Low DJs are 'pon the decks too.

With Mic Duties covered by the biggest Dubstep MC in the game Sgt. Pokes, you've got an event any self-respecting Dubstepper in East Anglia would sell their family to attend.

Skandal's also pulled out all the stops to make sure you get the best experience possible by amassing a 7k Turbosound sound system.  Considering the intimate size of the venue, this is serious chestplate business.  Earplugs and/or oxygen equipment due to air vibration recommended.

Skream, Hijak, Chef, Levelz and Pokes are no stranger to an after gig booze-up.  Can you imagine the upstairs terrace party in Havanas?  Can you?!?!

Turn up early, this will be a maximum capacity, queue around the block event.

Miss this at your peril.

Floats like a butterfly, stings like a b*tch

Feeling the more realistic feather/marble colourway too:
