GET LOW JAMM TAKEOVER 2011 // PHOTOS!!
Badboy photographs courtesy of Harry Watkinson.
Massive event. Big love to all those who attended.
Cannae say it enough, but BIG NEWS COMING!
POW! LCR Takeover ft. Bloc Party, POW! Party Boys b2b Get Low Cartel and mo'.
Aw snap!
Our pals POW! are running another huge event at the 1800 capacity UEA LCR. Whilst we've mostly moved to Laaandon, POW! continue to smash it in Norwich with their killer combination of indie, electro, disco and house party messiness - multiplied by 'nuff glow sticks and UV paint. And fit gyaldem.
We're going back to back with the POW! Party Boys for a 4-deck set on the main stage.
Oh yeah, Bloc Party are doing a 90 minute DJ set too.
Spark - Revolving (The Streets remix)
Its fitting that The Streets should re-enter the fray in 2011. Mike Skinner is loved and loathed by equal measure, but its undeniable that he introduced (or possibly re-introduced) a unique and marketable commodity to British music. His seminal debut album "Original Pirate Material" can still be found sitting around the top of favourite album lists, and as I was about 13 when the album was released, every track from that LP evokes powerful memories. Geezery yet tender, electronically driven yet with the sensibilities of rock and pop music, Skinner gave birth to that strand of idiosyncratic, boy next door stream of consciousness that paved the way for artists across the board; from Jamie T, The Maccabees and their indie counterparts to artists like Example and Professor Green (both of whom once resided on the infamously short lived "Beats" label run by Skinner and Ted Mayhem).
Now in 2011 The Streets are back, armed with a new album fittingly entitled "computers and blues" (with the album artwork shot at Get Low's very own UEA). A remix of the new female singer Spark's debut track "revolving" has emerged, presumably as a teaser for the new material. And what a teaser it is. Skinners hazy, five in the morning lyrics combine with Spark's great vocal on the chorus to provide a tune that I predict big things for.
Thanks to Platform Magazine for the initial heads up on this.
Benga & Joker - Untitled
An annoyingly fleeting little snatch of this potentially brilliant match up here, with snatches of Benga's distinctive "CLAP CLAP" snares rolling underneath a trademark Joker top-line that seems to sample Soft Cell's "Tainted Love". Intriguing indeed.

GET LOW JAMM TAKEOVER 2011 - ft. Jehst, Chef, Lil Silva, The Heatwave, 12tone, Get Low Cartel & more!
2011 is here and GET LOW is back with an absolute beauty of a night to kick off the year. On Friday 14th January the Get Low Cartel is taking over the iconic Brixton Jamm with a naughty line-up to tickle everyone's fancy, bringing people together like one happy family before our 2011 takeover gets in full swing. This will be a night you tell your grandchildren about.
Across two big ol' rooms the Cartel have handpicked a tasty little line-up that transcends genres and traditional musical flavourings, we're strictly about creating pure vibes to Get Low to:
JEHST
The UK Hip Hop legend that is Jehst - where to start? If by some freak occurance you've been encased in a rogue icicle for the past decade, then book the next week off work and get listening - your shit just got real son. For everyone else, you know this is not one to be missed.

CHEF
For any of you who made it down to our event in November, you will remember Chef came down for a surprise guest mix. We have been mad fans of this South London Badman since day, so it's an absolute pleasure to finally have him down on an official Get Low line-up. With a tune selection that can't be touched creating havoc on the dancefloor, this is just another reason to clear your Saturday schedule.

THE HEATWAVE
After killing it at the Get Low Bonfyaah Special we had to get them back. With a completely unique musical styling that's impossible to resist, The Heatwave combine party time bashment with reggae and funky. Simply, London's best party outfit.
http://www.theheatwave.co.uk
LIL SILVA
Funky's poster boy is set for a stormer of a year, after single handedly bringing the genre up to scratch and to the attention of electronic music's key tastemakers (such as the incendiary Night Slugs lable which is set to release Silva's Amazing new E.O), club bangers such as "Different" have set Lil Silva apart as THE go-to guy for dancefloor wrecking Funky House.

12TONE BRASS BAND
In their own words: "The 12tone sound is derived from the diverse musical and cultural influences found in London. It can best be described as endlessly including difference genres with intrinsic natural groove. Beat, World Music, Rock, Jazz, Classical and other modern dance music's such as Drum & Bass, Dubstep and Funk are amongst the many genres fused in the creation of the sound.
In our words: a big fuck-off naughty band that words can't do justice by, a fresh and original sound that instantly turns all newcomers into devouted followers. DUN KNO!!

The Streets use UEA ziggurats for the new album cover
Old news, but relevant to me as I'm still a UEA student. Skinner used the iconic student digs for his new album cover. He's not a stranger to halls of UEA as 3 years ago after he had a gig here he turned up at a student flat party in Nelson Court. My mate was there.

Cottonmouth - Hackney Smackers
Jus found this little gem wanted to share with you all before heading out. It's called Hackney Smackers and by a Bristol lad called Cottonmouth. Very tight production here with quite a distinct sound he's created.

You may recognise the sample from old favourites of the Get Low Cartel, The Boogaloo Crew with their song Calling All Dancers:
It's an absolute classic and a must-have so make sure you pick up a copy here. It comes in a bundle with Days Go By, an unbelievably naughty track that has become a firm favourite of mine when playing out and never ceases to create havoc on the dancefloor. There's not much wrong these boys can do.

Well funk you too..
Ahoyhoy, just stumbled across this banger from Rinse FM's Funk Butcher called "Sinister Boogie". Pure groove with a late 70's disco/funk vocal over the top - boom. Enjoy:
Sinister Boogie/Love Sensation-Funk Butcher Vs Loleatta Holloway BOOTLEG by FunkButcher
Sinister Boogie/Love Sensation-Funk Butcher Vs Loleatta Holloway BOOTLEG by FunkButcher
Definitely check out some of his other songs, pure funken gold. Make sure you listen to his show on Rinse every friday between 5-7 pm.
I also found this old gem that was pushed HARD earlier this year from The Fives. Song is called It's What You Do, the video is a bit shit, a bit kooky art project and pretentious, but when the song's this good it doesn't really matter. Big BIG tune.
safe x
