Get Low vs Hush House: Battle of the Blogs. 26/11/09

Get Low is ready for November with an exclusive collaboration with the excellent blog and DJ collective Hush House on Thursday 26th November at Po Na Na. Entitled "Battle of the Blogs", both crews will be competing for the crowds approval, so expect many an exclusive dub to be dropped. Expect Dubstep, Garage, Electro,B'more and Grime of the highest order.

Also joining in the battle will be the The Boogaloo Crew and Hylu, exciting new artists that have been tearing up clubs across the UK over the last few months.

THE BOOGALOO CREW

Constantly praised by those in the know for innovative production and original sets mixing Baltimore, Dubstep, Hip Hop and Drum & Bass; they're safe hands in getting a dancefloor jumping. The Boogaloo Crew were quickly awarded a residency at top London clubnight Trouble Vision, and have been stirring music blogs and smashing dancefloors ever since. Don't miss this opportunity to be some on the first to see them up close and personal before they take the underground music scene by storm.

HYLU

Good friend to the Get Low Cartel, Hylu will be representing this November bringing his distinctive sound that has helped him play alongside some of the greatest. Having worked closely with Trouble Vision and Organix, Hylu is now running his own nights in London called Dubscover & Techscover. Giving an insiders glance at the music scene he knows and loves, he's gone from strength to strength.

Dubscover and Techscover both place emphasis on new artists and new music, a refreshing change amongst the masses of pile 'em high club nights that host the same handful of overpaid artists. Held at the great east London venue Gramophone, its always free entry and is always vibes. Check their facebook page HERE

Sexstep: Skream's Chromeo remix

One of the big late-summer anthems, Skream's 'sexstep' remix of Chromeo's Night by Night can be downloaded here from the surprisingly generous Green Money Sound label website, along with other incarnations of the track and the original version. Although it smacks a little of a dubstep remix for the sake of a dubstep remix, Skream's version adds a nice layer of bass energy and it is a nice, girl-friendly track that hypes a dancefloor.

Download here http://www.greenlabelsound.com/artists/chromeo/?id=112&type=0

Expect similar production from Skream over the next few months. He is clearly keen to break the american market and expand beyond the slightly limited boundaries of bass-heavy, wobble-led dubstep that is threatening to take over the genre. His new album is dropping early in 2010, and from what we have heard so far it seems to contain both progressive and innovative production and a fondness for the sounds of early 90's jungle and detroit house.

MONDAY MIXTAPE MADNESS

Ahoy Hoy.

mixtape 2

The weather's colder now, for a lot of people the Library is becoming a second home due to imminent exams and deadlines, and that long walk to Uni/Work/School just ain't cutting it no more.

Here's our attempt to raise your spirits by giving you some tasty mixtapes to put 'pon your Ipod to chomp down during the week.

First off, get out from under your rock if you don't know about man of the minute Joy Orbison. His future garage tune 'Hyph Mngo' is stirring a bloody shitstorm of hype (and rightly so). It's even recently been played out by Sasha in Ibiza of all places!

Check out his DOLDRUMS mix for Lower End Spasm.

Also, a person I've personally been really feeling right now is up-and-comer MENSAH. We met him when he came up with Joker last week. As well as making heavy beats, he's also safe as fuck. A good combination.

Check out his myspace here, and listen to "Acid Dub" and "Pulse 80's". Both pure fire.

He's got tracks coming out on H.E.N.C.H., his own exclusive Joker remixes, expect to see a lot more of him next year.

mixtape 1

Anyway, go cop his exclusive mix for the excellent Disruption Inc blog.

Hyperdub 5: Guardian Article

Aswell as Blackdown's 5th blogoversary, Kode 9's seminal imprint Hyperdub is celebrating five years in the game. The label is releasing a collection of releases over the last five years that have helped keep Hyperdub at the bleeding edge of electronic music, featuring Joker, 2000f, Cooly G and Burial, who came to prominence through the guidance of Hyperdub, and provides a new exclusive track entitled "Fostercare". There was a great feature a couple of weeks back in the Guardian's film and music section. One memorable moment is their description of the Darkstar track "Aidie's girl is a computer" as heartbreakingly beautiful. Well worth a read.

Blackdown's 5th Birthday

Today is both my girl's Birthday and the 5th year anniversary of Blackdown, the blog that gave an early platform to the mutant strands of music coming out of the decaying garage, 2-step and drumn bass genre's, music that would come to be known as Dubstep. Blackdown's blog is a wonderland of lost mixtapes and weird and wonderful interviews conducted with some of the biggest names in the scene. Blackdown has been the perfect commentator on Dubstep's steady progression to the forefront of British club music, and his funny and in-depth articles give a revealing perspective on the way the sound has progressed and developed over this crucial five year period. No stone is left unturned and grime, garage and the new sound of funky all get equal coverage. Basically it's the ultimate blog for any fan of British urban music.

Blackdown also run's the highly progressive Keysound label, and links can be found for this through the blog.

To celebrate the 5th Birthday of Blackdown, an early Hatcha mixtape is available for download. This mix perfectly captures the grimy, post-garage sounds of South London in 2002.
