Fan page music round up....

As many of you know, we have a regularly updated Facebook fan page.

I post tunes that I'm feeling, keeping an ear to the ground in underground music.

So without further ado, these are our most recent recommendations.....

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Eyes down business on the remix from Breakage.

Banger from Goth Trad. Long time coming, but now out on Disfigured Dubz.

Loving Spectrasoul at the minute.

This is one of my favourite tunes in D&B. Bassline's a beaut.

Whaaaaaaay-oh! Fat tune.

You know that bit in 'Migraine Skank' where the beat switches, and people go nuts?

It's this tune.

EURGH!

Hot Garage tip from Breakage.

Kode 9 funky tip.

Some Sunday afternoon relaxing tunes right now. Martyn's a don.

Neighbourhood remix by Logistics. Been repping the original from DAY!

Dash has found his new tune to finish sets with.

BADBOY.

Brand spanking new Skream tune, again forthcoming off the new album.

From compilation "5 years of Hyperdub".

Lovely tune.

Completely left field, but a banging minimal tune from Icicle. Please recommend similar artists/songs; I love this malarky.

Merry Christmas!

Vice goes behind the scenes for the new SMD video

After making videos for Klaxons and Good Shoes and a billion other amazing projects, Saam Faramand is pretty much Vice's favourite director. Simian Mobile Disco first worked with him in their "Hustler" video when he seemed to get every girl inside Catch to come round and make out with each other.

Now, for SMD's new collaboration with Beth Ditto, Saam's brought together the woman from all those Nescafe adverts, sapphism, and electronic drug abuse. He also let Vice film him make it for their Heroes project with Vodafone - http://bit.ly/8aeJPG

All about the Joker remix though.

I'm a Vice Student Ambassador now, so keep your eyes on the Vice Student Blog.

In fact, their whole website is pretty dope. Check it out: http://www.viceland.com/uk

This is my favourite article on it.
It's about the young teenage gangs in Liverpool.

Click here to check that out.

THE CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL!

CAAAARRRRNIVAAAAAAAALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's that time of the year again, essays are in and Christmas is round the corner. Soon everyone will be back sitting round the fire eating mince pies and pulling crackers with nan. But before all that come and say goodbye to the term and hello to the holidays at the GET LOW CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL!

★ BENGA ★

Making his third appearance at Get Low, and with a better afro than Jamie Archer, Benga will be headlining the Christmas Carnival. It's been a hectic 2009 for the Dubstep legend, with smash hit shows at Glastonbury, Roskilde, Matter and countless others. Benga's production is like no other, full of dancefloor sensibility with a sprinkling of Ibizan euphoria. Forget the rinsed 2008 anthem 'Night', Benga is coming hard with fantastic new productions and exciting collaborations with the likes of Eve and Pharrell. Come and toast the beginning of the festive season with one of dance music's most exciting prodigies.

★ BEATS IN ABUNDANCE ★

Old school Norwich big dogs, BIA used to be the biggest student night when Get Low was just a young wee nipper.

Long-time cohorts of the Get Low Cartel, Baines and Dash used to do epic 5 hour sets in San Francisco at their residency at Noc Noc, Haight Street, San Francisco. Beats In Abundance will be back for a highly exclusive N-town performance. Perfect DJ's to provide a colourful chrimbo mash-up of styles and surprises, you'll find it impossible not to have a boogle boogle with a big grin on your face. Don't miss this rare BIA set with beats to move, groove and improve the soul.

The signature BIA airhorn will be making an appearance!

http://www.beatsinabundance.com/

Get involved, this is may be the last time to catch all your new mateys before everyone buggers off back to village-town in nowhereshire. Benga is a big fan of Get Low, having made appearances several times before, and always brings the vibes.

Breakage FACT Magazine Mix

We have absolute badman Breakage comin to Get Low in January. He's been on our radar for some time now, and his progression from Drum n Bass to Dubstep has been far more authentic and impressive then most of the other DnB producers who've tried to leap onto the bandwagon. His track 'Together' which features an inspired sample from reggae legend David Rodigan has been reworked again by Newham Generals. Entitled 'Hard', it was a massive hit on the summer festival circuit, and now gets mutliple rewinds in clubs. We're very excited to be hosting Breakage in January, as he has become known for breathtaking mixing and joyous track selection.

Download his fantastic mix for FACT magazine HERE

Here's the vid for 'Hard' with some nice interviews with Breakage and Newham Generals talking about how the track came about.

Get Low vs Hush House: Battle of the Blogs. 26/11/09

Get Low is ready for November with an exclusive collaboration with the excellent blog and DJ collective Hush House on Thursday 26th November at Po Na Na. Entitled "Battle of the Blogs", both crews will be competing for the crowds approval, so expect many an exclusive dub to be dropped. Expect Dubstep, Garage, Electro,B'more and Grime of the highest order.

Also joining in the battle will be the The Boogaloo Crew and Hylu, exciting new artists that have been tearing up clubs across the UK over the last few months.

THE BOOGALOO CREW

Constantly praised by those in the know for innovative production and original sets mixing Baltimore, Dubstep, Hip Hop and Drum & Bass; they're safe hands in getting a dancefloor jumping. The Boogaloo Crew were quickly awarded a residency at top London clubnight Trouble Vision, and have been stirring music blogs and smashing dancefloors ever since. Don't miss this opportunity to be some on the first to see them up close and personal before they take the underground music scene by storm.

★ check the Hush House blog post about Boogaloo Crew here: http://hush-house.blogspot.com/2009/04/big-things-from.html)

HYLU

Good friend to the Get Low Cartel, Hylu will be representing this November bringing his distinctive sound that has helped him play alongside some of the greatest. Having worked closely with Trouble Vision and Organix, Hylu is now running his own nights in London called Dubscover & Techscover. Giving an insiders glance at the music scene he knows and loves, he's gone from strength to strength.

Dubscover and Techscover both place emphasis on new artists and new music, a refreshing change amongst the masses of pile 'em high club nights that host the same handful of overpaid artists. Held at the great east London venue Gramophone, its always free entry and is always vibes. Check their facebook page HERE

http://www.myspace.com/djhylu.

GET LOW CARTEL vs HUSH HOUSE DJs

Back-to-Back business, Dash & Towelie from the Get Low Cartel and the Hush House DJs will be upping the stakes to out do each other in an almighty showdown of musical supremacy. Electro, Funky, Garage, Dubstep, Bmore and much more; there can only be one winner.

Grab a flyer from a shop/ off a wall/ out of our hands as it is FREE ENTRY BEFORE 11pm WITH A FLYER. Cant ask for more than that!

Sexstep: Skream's Chromeo remix

One of the big late-summer anthems, Skream's 'sexstep' remix of Chromeo's Night by Night can be downloaded here from the surprisingly generous Green Money Sound label website, along with other incarnations of the track and the original version. Although it smacks a little of a dubstep remix for the sake of a dubstep remix, Skream's version adds a nice layer of bass energy and it is a nice, girl-friendly track that hypes a dancefloor.

Download here http://www.greenlabelsound.com/artists/chromeo/?id=112&type=0

Expect similar production from Skream over the next few months. He is clearly keen to break the american market and expand beyond the slightly limited boundaries of bass-heavy, wobble-led dubstep that is threatening to take over the genre. His new album is dropping early in 2010, and from what we have heard so far it seems to contain both progressive and innovative production and a fondness for the sounds of early 90's jungle and detroit house.

MONDAY MIXTAPE MADNESS

Ahoy Hoy.

Also, a person I've personally been really feeling right now is up-and-comer MENSAH. We met him when he came up with Joker last week. As well as making heavy beats, he's also safe as fuck. A good combination.

Check out his myspace here, and listen to "Acid Dub" and "Pulse 80's". Both pure fire.

He's got tracks coming out on H.E.N.C.H., his own exclusive Joker remixes, expect to see a lot more of him next year.

Hyperdub 5: Guardian Article

Aswell as Blackdown's 5th blogoversary, Kode 9's seminal imprint Hyperdub is celebrating five years in the game. The label is releasing a collection of releases over the last five years that have helped keep Hyperdub at the bleeding edge of electronic music, featuring Joker, 2000f, Cooly G and Burial, who came to prominence through the guidance of Hyperdub, and provides a new exclusive track entitled "Fostercare". There was a great feature a couple of weeks back in the Guardian's film and music section. One memorable moment is their description of the Darkstar track "Aidie's girl is a computer" as heartbreakingly beautiful. Well worth a read.

Blackdown's 5th Birthday

Today is both my girl's Birthday and the 5th year anniversary of Blackdown, the blog that gave an early platform to the mutant strands of music coming out of the decaying garage, 2-step and drumn bass genre's, music that would come to be known as Dubstep. Blackdown's blog is a wonderland of lost mixtapes and weird and wonderful interviews conducted with some of the biggest names in the scene. Blackdown has been the perfect commentator on Dubstep's steady progression to the forefront of British club music, and his funny and in-depth articles give a revealing perspective on the way the sound has progressed and developed over this crucial five year period. No stone is left unturned and grime, garage and the new sound of funky all get equal coverage. Basically it's the ultimate blog for any fan of British urban music.

Blackdown also run's the highly progressive Keysound label, and links can be found for this through the blog.

To celebrate the 5th Birthday of Blackdown, an early Hatcha mixtape is available for download. This mix perfectly captures the grimy, post-garage sounds of South London in 2002.

Cityscape Group Show. BANGING Afterparty!

Lava Collective presents:

Cityscape

Opening November 5th, 6pm – 9:30pm.
Then open daily, 11am – 7pm.
Free entry

The LAVA Collective has put together a group show of predominantly North American origin, focusing on street art and urban culture. Big names like Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Dalek and Skullphone vie for attention with an exciting selection of emerging artists.
The stars of the show are Brooklyn duo Peru Ana Ana Peru, who have been invited over especially to install a site-specific montage of their work. This couple have made a name for themselves in NYC with their vibrant and distinctive street pieces but they also produce video, sculpture, and fine art. They have got a big solo show coming up at the Brooklynite Gallery NYC before heading over here to oversee their first appearance in a London show.
Cityscape will also showcase the photography of Ricky Powell. The man they call the ‘Fourth Beastie Boy’ was on hand to witness the birth of hip hop culture in NYC. For this show he has submitted a selection of his classic portraits, including Run DMC, KRS One, Easy E, Eric B and Rakim. These extraordinary photos depict iconic musicians in intimate surroundings; Easy E is tuning a radio, Jam master Jay is all smiles at the airport. This is a rare opportunity to see Powell’s work in London.

The opening party is on November 5th from 6pm - 9:30pm. Original artwork and prints will be available at reasonable prices, and to sweeten the deal, free Crooks & Castles T-shirts will be given away with the first ten purchases. As well as complimentary drinks, we'll be handing out goodie bags in collaboration with our sponsors Frank 151 and Big Up Magazine.

This will be followed by an afterparty at the Princess Alice pub, 42-44 Commercial Street. LAVA Collective have invited dubstep luminaries Loefah, Mala and Pokes to provide the soundtrack for the night. To get free entry to the after party, just go along to the art show and put your name on the list. Capacity is limited so get there early.
