GET LOW SUMMER SHAKEDOWN // SAT 11TH JUNE // PLAN B, BRIXTON // KILLER LINE-UP!

CLICK ON PICTURE FOR FACEBOOK EVENT

We're proud to announce our upcoming Get Low Summer Shakedown that we're sure is going to be an absolute blast.  Come on down for a skanky skanky!

LINE-UP!

After conquering the D&B scene as Clipz, he diverted his attention and recently has been creating his own special sound as Redlight that floats between House, Dubstep, Funky and all things hype.  With collaborations with some of the greatest and a back catalogue more valuable than the fortune of Monte Christo, it's an absolute pleasure to finally host this bass heavy deity.

Appearing alongside Redlight will be Dread MC, fast making a name for himself in both Drum & Bass and Dubstep circles.  He's worked alongside DJ Die, Skream, Benga, Redlight, Pinch and Kutz at their own request, and makes frequent appearances at the UK's top clubnights.  Don't miss Dread bringing the hype!

ONEMAN

A true Get Low favourite, we've got the one and only Oneman back again in full force with his incredible music collection that never ceases to amaze, inspire and merk dancefloors left, right and centre. Effortlessly mixing across genres, pulling out gem after gem, come watch the master at work.

Another Get Low regular, The Heatwave are back bringing the finest bashment going. Causing riots on the dancefloor and enticing girls on stage to dance for Rubi Dan's approval; there is a reason we try to get The Heatwave back as often as possible - they simply create pure vibes everywhere they go.

Building up a formidable reputation as top party DJs,  they rumble chestplates, wobble knees and bring bassline to your nostril.  Dancefloors just got dangerous.

As always, Madboy Zimba playing all things Funky, from Tropical to Grime, Hip Hop to Dubstep, it's quite frankly impossible to sit still while this old skool turntablist is on.

+

Get Low familiars BUDS and D-Rail will be DJing back to back to take everything darkside for the last hour to wind down the nights proceedings.

This is the launch party for our new residency at

GET LOW CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL! With Oneman, Yasmin, Smutlee, Get Low Cartel & more. This Thursday at the Dogstar!

After the BONFYAAH night madness featuring The Heatwave and Quest, and surprise sets from Chefal and Silkie, GET LOW is back at Brixton's world famous Dogstar for a very special Christmas Carnival.  With a date as close to baby Jesus' birthday as possible, we have a suitably festive blend of sound of London's biggest DJs and future superstars in the making.  Come shake a leg and pull a cracker.

THURSDAY 23RD DECEMBER

THREE FLOORS OF:

GARAGE // HIP HOP // FUNKY // DUBSTEP //ELECTRO // TROPICAL // D&B // UK BASS

ONEMAN
Rinse FM // 502 Recordings // Standard Place

We're delighted to welcome back ONEMAN as our carnival headliner.  After a great year that has seen Oneman establish his show on Rinse FM, set up his own 502 Recordings label and become the headline DJ of the burgeoning "future garage" scene, Oneman can currently do no wrong.  His unique blend of Garage, House, off beat Dubstep and the occasional curve-ball creates a different kind of vibe on the dancefloor.  Once you see Oneman play, it instantly becomes the best set you've ever seen.  Don't just take it from us, Oneman is Pitchfork's 2010 DJ of the Year.  Real Talk.

YASMIN
Bad Intentions

Singer, DJ, and all things inbetween, Yasmin has established herself as one of the most exciting acts in the music industry and is set for a HUGE 2011.  From featuring on Devlin's smash single "Runaway" and regularly becoming jam-hot on Mistajam's radio show, Yasmin will be making a highly exclusive appearance at GET LOW spinning her trademark blend of Hip Hop, RnB, and party tunes which she has showcased over the last year at her highly popular clubnight Bad Intentions.  Check out her new forthcoming single produced by Shy FX. Big tings a-gwan.

SMUTLEE
YOYO // Vice

We have been trying to get Smutlee on a GET LOW lineup for a long time, as his incendiary mish mash of Funky, Bashment and Grime is right up our street.  Regularly killing dancefloors at some of the best nights in London, Smutlee is essentially shorthand for incredible party vibes, guaranteeing all the gyaldem on the floor.

BUDS

Buds has developed a reputation as one of the quickest D&B DJ's around.  Through epic song selection and classic old jungle, make sure you stick around for the last hour to catch Buds bringing in Christmas Eve in style.

BEATS IN ABUNDANCE

Old school cohorts of GET LOW, superb party outfit BIA will be providing a fabulous fanfare of disco, pop and the fruiter forms of electronic music.  If you heaven't heard of BIA then shame on you, come and be educated in music - if you're not converted, you have no soul.

D-RAIL

A Vagabondz favourite, D-Rail never ceases to surprise.  With an ability to read and react to crowds backed up by a fiendish record collection, D-Rail hits the nail on the head with spot-on precision that gets a room moving.

MADBOY ZIMBA
(The Brothers Grime)

Madboy Zimba cannot be categorised.  Breaking the mould for traditional turntablism this tropical troublemaker tears up the dancefloor wherever he goes; with regular bookings all over London this is someone you are bound to see a lot more of.

GET LOW CARTEL

Firing tunes like predator drones, the GET LOW residents are infamous for making hands involuntarily gunfinger above one's head.  They've dj'd alongside a who's who of the biggest names in underground music, regularly headlined the legendary 1000+ event the Garden Rave and currently headline the biggest resident only electronic night in East Anglia, The Mansion Rave.  Making a splash in the London scene, they top up earholes, rumble chestplates, wobble knees and bring bassline to your nostril.  We make dancefloors dangerous.

Pitchfork: Grime / Dubstep, November 2010. Written by lyrical skengman Martin Clark.

Girl Unit photo by Braiden.

Scribe in chief for the London bass scene, Martin 'Blackdown' Clark comes out this month with an incredible article about the current state of 'the scene'.  This guy either does a lot of Ketamine or is insanely smart.

"The area that has shined brightest in 2010, what the year will be remembered for, is the currently nameless zone that, catalyzed by UK funky, grew out of disenchantment with dubstep's direction and the lack of dancefloor inertia in grime. Out of those negative situations came a new set of creativity, diversity, and possibilities; a fresh ecosystem-- a decentralized matrix of new idea clusters, rather than one dense defined new movement, as we're used to seeing."

Real talk.

Oneman considered 2010 DJ of the year.  Like a boss!

Check out this interview we did with Oneman about his new label 502 Recordings!

Get Low favourite Oneman has started his own record label 502 Recordings, and kicked things off with the incendiary club banger "Night Hunter" by Fis-T.

A wobbly funky-dubsteppy number, this was actually the tune we raved about when we saw Scratcha, Ben UFO, Skream and Joy Orbison at FWD way back in April.

Get Low managed to grab a few minutes with Oneman to chat about how the label came about and its plans for the future...

GET LOW: Why did you decide to start up your own record label?

ONEMAN: I've wanted to start a label for a while now, ever since this new hybrid garage/house/dubstep sound came around early 2009.  I think starting a label is always a case of finding your first release and then go from there.  I played 'Night Hunter' the day I got it at this Red Bull party in Brixton, and it destroyed the place.  I knew from then that I wanted to release the record, it deserves a vinyl release!

GL: What kind of sound are you hoping to develop with 502?  Is 'Night Hunter' a taste of things to come in terms of musical direction?

O: I'm just going to go with it and release what I like really.  At the moment I'm focussing on this new hybrid sound like I say, between 125-135 bpm usually, spacey broken beats and bass.  The second release will be a track called 'Prism' by a new producer from Lyon called Jay Weed.

GL: Tell us a little about Fis-T.  What's his background and where did you come across his work?

O: As far as I know, Fis-T comes from a grime background, and has injected that style into his new broken house-style productions.  He's a young lad from North London and has a very bright future ahead of him.  I came across 'Night Hunter' from browsing the UK Funky charts on iTunes where it had been released by Fis-T himself.  I'm sure you will see more releases from Fis-T on 502 Recordings.

GL: It's great to see effort going into expensive vinyl artwork production, and the first 502 record features a distinctive design.  Who made it?

O: All 502 releases will be released on 180g quality vinyl with a 2 week delay on digital release.  The artwork was a collaborative effort between myself and the designer called Charlotte Knowles.  I think it's really important to have a full package that you can take to the shops to sell.

GL: And finally, are we going to see any of your own productions coming out on this label?  Many artists have maximised on exposure by releasing their own productions on their own label, like Joker did with Kapsize to fantastic effect.

O: It's a possibility.  Not saying too much yet though...

Croydon is the new Detroit, Skream remixes a tune called 'Get Low', and Oneman and Joy Orbison go B2B on Rinse FM

Ear to the ground business in the world of Underground music.

Here are a couple of pictures from our recent Get Low 2nd Birthday Bash ft. Toddla T, Elijah & Skilliam, ourselves, and more.  Full photo blog post coming soon.

Yeah, we focus on Dubstep a lot; but it's probably the most exciting and significant underground music genre of our generation.

Don't believe us?

Read Joe Muggs' excellent Don't Panic article about Croydon being the new Detroit:

Free tune from Dash and Oneman's Butterz Grime mix

I've decided to share with you lot a likkle mash-up I did.

DJ Oddz - Bladerunner (Dash's Dizzee Blend) by dashieluk

I hope you like it, and you can download it from my Soundcloud page, after the click.

By the way, this track was inspired by this mix by Oneman (specifically the last song).  It's from the Butterz show on Rinse FM hosted by Elijah & Skilliam who we had for our afterparty last week.  Oneman is a phenomenal DJ and this simply proves how high his game is.

Mixtape Sunday

We're watching the Liverpool / Arsenal match right now. Got Oneman's new winter mix 'pon the player in the background.

I'm also now part of the Mixcloud street team, so gotta rep that.

Needless to say, Beats In Abundance smashed it last Thursday. Join our fan page and upload photos. There are tons of sick ones around friend's facebook photo albums, let's put 'em together!
Anyway, BIA did a Dubstep set a few moons ago. Check it out:

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009ING.....

NYE was alright in the end, considering the Urban Nerds party at Cordy House was cancelled the day before. Not cool at all, apparently the building owners didnt even have an event license, and Hackney Council aren't the most leniant organisation. It was seen in at FWD and was a laugh despite Youngsta, Chef and Headhunter all being absent. DJ SPYRO smashed it, playing a sick blend of old grime tunes with flawless mixing-despite clearly being incredibly battered. Respect.

Here are some pics from last term, of November's GET LOW featuring DJ ONEMAN and MC ASBO that I forgot to put up before. They will both be making appearances into 2009 as they can hype a crowd like no-one else.
